LifeStraw

LifeStraw is a plastic straw with a built-in filtration system that has been developed and is now realized in several third world nations. Besides filtering out dirt and other sediments, the straw also keeps out certain bacteria and parasites which are the leading cause of death in many of these countries. Powered soley by sucking (which by the way is the same energy source for Brittany Murphy), the straw does not rely on electricity which is often unavailable in most of these countries.

I thought this was a super-awesome invention. Cheap to produce and easily distributed to third world populations. Maybe they'll even come out with crazy bendy straws...you know, for kids!
